To be sure of understanding your point, you state that personal recommendations, based on lived and shared experiences, are the most influential factor in choosing a destination, even surpassing fiction or guides. It is true that these testimonies are powerful, but it should be noted that travel guides, whether general or thematic, play a crucial role in refining this choice and especially in the concrete preparation of the trip, particularly when internet access is limited on site.

I am allergic to the 'glossy' side of inspiration through fiction, which forgets what happens when you really have to pay and organize.
Honestly, a travel guide is not just a sub-part of inspiration; it can be the primary source that sparks the spark.
I have seen clients who dreamed of fairy-tale weddings but quickly returned to the cost reality and logistics by flipping through a guide for a concrete destination.
You always have to ask what changes concretely tomorrow to prove that the idea is viable, not just beautiful.
A guide can reveal destinations we would never have imagined, offering a practical starting point long before a story gets involved.

Forget the dichotomy between fiction and guides; the real driver is lived experience, the unexpected third way.
One does not choose a destination solely based on romanticized dreams or cold factual information.
A friend recounting their trip to Martinique, sharing anecdotes over coffee, is what really resonates and weighs in the decision.
Personal recommendations from a close one, like a good doctor, take precedence over any book or guide when deciding on a concrete destination.

On a scale from 0 to 100, the notion that travel guides are just a sub-part of fictional inspiration gets a meager 20.
Fictional inspiration can initiate a desire with a score of 3/10 on feasibility, but a guide provides a concrete roadmap with a score of 8/10.
The ratio between a dream and an action plan is huge; one is diffuse, the other is a multiple of practical information.
For example, The Lord of the Rings inspires New Zealand, but it is the guides that detail itineraries, costs, and accommodations for a real trip, crossing an action threshold.
