The old scenario applies here: a general survey on vacation planning habits cannot serve as direct evidence to explain the deep motivations behind identity document verification.
Historically, people manage their documents for concrete and unavoidable reasons, such as administrative delays or legal requirements, and not simply because they are good travel planners.
In the Netherlands, the validity of a passport is a matter of administrative survival, not a leisure planning choice.
If the survey did not specifically ask why people verify their papers, the connection is an interpretation and not factual evidence.
