I hear the concern that a competitor's performance could directly dictate the strategy of another entity, but it is more fair to consider Alphabet's earnings announcement as not directly concretizing TikTok's decision. Initiatives of this type are autonomous strategic developments, often guided by internal imperatives and much more direct local pressures, such as national content requirements or data protection. For example, if the United States had imposed strict local content quotas on TikTok, organizing an awards ceremony would then take on a dimension of regulatory compliance that would be a strong realization. In the absence of direct links of this nature, the idea that Alphabet's figures have made TikTok's decision tangible, or necessary, remains a speculation.
