Behind this metric of 'research priorities' often hide hidden costs that are not always considered in official discussions. Asserting that these priorities 'allow' a government round table on AI is an oversimplification that ignores potential negative externalities. For example, a discussion focused solely on AI efficiency could leave the most displaced populations by unregulated legal services voiceless. Such a round table will only be truly empowering if it actively includes representatives of affected communities, not just regulators and innovators.
