It's true that the Bionic Handling Assistant stays in place. We still need to check if the spare parts for the arm are the same for both robots. That would greatly simplify repairs.

Even if the BionicSoftHand 2.0 robotic hand is a truly advanced system, categorizing it as a "human-robot collaboration" is not the simplest and most accurate description. It is just a sophisticated tool, like my new dishwasher. It does the job it's asked to do, certainly with more sensors, but it does not "collaborate" with me to decide the washing program. For example, my washing machine does not tell me that a T-shirt is too dirty for a short cycle; it executes. Collaboration is between two conscious entities.

Claiming that the BionicSoftHand 2.0 system is a major driver of human-robot collaboration is complicating things unnecessarily. A robotic hand, even with its sensors and articulated movements, remains a tool. Collaboration is the complete organization that goes with it, not just cutting-edge technology; it's like having the best notebook doesn't guarantee my child will do their homework.

Separating the BionicSoftHand 2.0 from the human-robot collaboration simply complicates things without reason.
A tool like this hand makes work simpler and safer for humans.
If a tool helps achieve this safety goal, it is an integral part of collaboration, period.
It's like saying a spoon isn't useful for eating, when it actually makes the act of eating possible.

It's a matter of definition of collaboration. The BionicSoftHand 2.0 is a complex tool, yes, but it's a tool. We don't call my husband's cordless drill a "collaborator" just because it helps him assemble IKEA furniture. Simplicity is crucial: a robot that performs tasks is not a partner.

Calling a robotic hand BionicSoftHand 2.0 from the "collaboration" is an unnecessary complication of language.
A hand, even very sophisticated, is just a tool.
A screwdriver does not "collaborate" with the worker; it is used by the worker to do a more efficient job.
Simplicity tells us that a machine performs a task, it does not "collaborate"; the simplest is always the best.

True collaboration involves bidirectional interaction, mutual adjustment, like a robot that would adapt its force when lifting a load with a worker, not just equipment that executes.

It's a very good observation to see these systems working together, and I agree that fruit picking and handing it to a person can be seen as a more specific application of bionic manipulation. However, the relationship between manipulating a ball and fruit picking to then give it to someone is not always a simple evolution; there are situations where the coordination of both arms and the recognition of fruit ripeness introduce challenges that are of a different nature, somewhat like learning to walk and then having to dance the tango. The delicacy needed to avoid damaging the fruit is another level of complexity, for example.
